Clinical Rotation

NRP does not guarantee clinical placement. You are responsible for identifying and coordinating with a willing clinical site. It is strongly encouraged to find a clinical site before enrolling in the program. All clinical sites must have a Clinical Site Agreement in place with the NRP in order for our malpractice policy to cover you during the rotation.

If you are an RN, you must be precepted by an RN. If you are an LPN, you may be precepted by an LPN or RN. Additionally, your clinical hours must be unpaid and on a unit which you are not currently employed by.

The number of required clinical hours is dependent on how long you have been out of practice:

Up to 80 clinical hours.

Minimum of 80 hours.

Minimum of 120 hours.

Minimum of 160 hours.

Minimum of 200 hours.

Requires individual assessment by the NRP Clinical Coordinator. Contact nurserefresher@nurseleaders.org for more information.

During your clinical rotation, you must complete the following paperwork with your preceptor:

Be sure to seek plentiful comments from your preceptor, because if any of the clinical documents are considered incomplete by the NRP Clinical Coordinator, they will be returned with feedback and you will be asked to return to your preceptor for revision.

If you are obtaining an Idaho license, your clinical nurse preceptor must also provide a letter which states you successfully completed the required clinical hours and an assessment of your competency level. This letter must be emailed directly to the Idaho Board of Nursing at ibn@dopl.idaho.gov and cc’d to nurserefresher@nurseleaders.org.

Contact nurserefresher@nurseleaders.org with any questions.
